This workshop is being offered FREE of charge to all participants.

 

In only two days, you will learn how to successfully implement state-of-the-art strategies for the sustainable retrofit of existing buildings.

Workshop Description

This interactive two-day session will provide practical strategies to green affordable housing.  Presentations, discussions, case studies and an interactive review of current projects will cover the latest issues in greening, the best strategies being employed across the industry, and approaches that can benefit projects of all sizes.

 

The training will cover:

   Essentials of Energy Use

   Measuring Performance

   Renewable Energy Options

   Financing Green Projects

   Long-term Sustainability

   Lessons Learned


Participants will gain an overall understanding of how to plan and manage a successful rehabilitation project, including the initial building assessment, energy conservation measures and measuring performance.


Who Should Attend?

Affordable housing project managers, developers and other individuals interested in lessening environmental impacts, reducing long-term operating and maintenance expenses and creating a healthy environment for residents.

 

Presenter Bios

Edward Connelly, Esq., LEED-AP, President of New Ecology, Inc., has over 20 years of experience incorporating sustainable strategies into complex projects.  He is a national expert on green building and sustainale community-based business development.  Mr. Connelly is leading NEI's efforts to track energy use in affordable housing, with a goal of using this data to select strategies for retrofitting buildings.

 

Alison Corwin, LEED-AP, Senior Associate at New Ecology, Inc., has experience working with communities on sustainability issues including green building, transportation, energy efficiency and economic development.  She works on both the green new construction and existing building retrofit programs at NEI.  Ms. Corwin is a member of Emerging Green Builders and the Interdisciplinary Consortium on Urban Planning and Public Health.

 

Kathleen Dorgan, AIA, LEED-AP, Principal of Dorgan Architecture & Planning, is a practioner of comprehensive sustainable community development.  Her projects are featured in Good Neighbors:  Affordable Family Housing, The Design Advisor, Design Matters and the National Building Museum's exhibit Affordable Housing:  Designing an American Asset.  Past-president of the Association for Community Design, Ms. Dorgan was a Loeb Fellowship at Harvard and a HUD Community Builder Fellow.
